It’s not a secret that I don’t sleep much. What most people don’t know is that I have many subtle levels of insomnia. I keep a grading scale if you will, of how horrible my night was based on the amount of sleep I actually got, and the things I had to do in order to finally fall asleep. Last night was not a good night, as evidenced by the fact that I read an entire book before midnight, and watched The Running Man before I actually came face-to-face with Mr. Sandman. Thank you, Amazon Prime.

IT goes without saying that I wasn’t in the best of moods when I walked through the doors of the gym this AM to coach the 0800 class. Yet all that changed the second I saw the 0700 class. Everyone – and I mean EVERYONE’S Overhead Squats looked FANTASTIC – a trend that carried over into the 0800 and 0915 classes. It was so impressive, in fact, that I stayed on the floor not so much to help coach Alice’s 0915* so much as I did to just watch the progress people are making with the movement. It was a tremendously proud moment – one that made the insomnia disappear entirely, and that really brought a smile not only to my face, but to the faces of all the coaches in attendance at the time.

Particularly impressive were the folks who recently joined our community, or who just completed their On-Ramp. It was hard to tell that today was Sara Tessitore’s first class, that Maggie Coulman didn’t fancy herself as proficient with the movement, or that Jenn Mota and Laura Reeves have been at this for less than a month. And when you think about the fact that AJ hasn’t been with us for more than a week…it’s actually kind of scary!!

Jenn Mota and Laura Reeves proved 2 things today: that they have great overhead squats, and that I have no camera skills. This was the best I could do - sorry girls!

Great work by everyone this morning. Afternoon crews – let’s keep the momentum going!!!

*Given that I can never quite seem to shut my fat mouth, Alice’s perspective is probably different. Sorry about that, Alice – I’m working on it.
