AJ Turrell graduated with a degree in Exercise Science from Hofstra University. He knew he wanted to coach and sought out to educate himself in the necessary disciplines by receiving certifications from the NSCA as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach, Crossfit as a Level 1 coach, USA Weightlifting as a Sports Performance Coach, and OPEX Level 1. AJ originally pursued a position in the public sector working with collegiate athletes but fell in love with the community and style of training at CrossFit Training Threshold. He has since committed himself to learning more about athletic development and consistently improving his skills as a coach.
How long have you been crossfitting?
I have been Crossfitting for two years
Why do you love CrossFit?
I love Crossfit because of its unique ability to expose weaknesses in a variety of energy systems, fitness modalities and skill sets. You must be humble and patient to achieve balance and talent in Crossfit
Favorite WOD / Workout?
Although I’m not very good at it, I really like Fight Gone Bad. I think it’s a good blend of a lot of common movements one will be exposed to in Crossfit and it really embodies the concept of “embracing the suck”
Why do you love CrossFit TT?
I believe Crossfit TT is the best gym in the area and has so much potential to become even more. TT’s Head Coach and co-owner, Tyler, is one of the best minds in Crossfit and exercise physiology. His wife and co-owner, Meghan, is a fantastic manager, coach, and athlete. We are fortunate to have them at the helm. They have built an excellent coaching staff and community that is filled with supportive friends and family.
What inspired you to become a coach?
Share information and help people improve their lives.
What gets you through a hard workout?
Trying to keep my focus on breathing, technique, and counting reps. If I start to think of how uncomfortable some workouts feel I tell myself that I’ve been there before, I’ll be fine, and this is what will make me better.
