Tyler Barnes

A life-long competitive swimmer from South Burlington, Tyler was a Professional Triathlete from 1999-2003, racing the draft-legal UCI format. During his tenure as a Pro, he represented the United States at three World Championships, and earned distinction as USA Triathlon’s Athlete of the Year in 2002.  After exchanging his racing flats for a coaches clipboard and stopwatch, Tyler was introduced to CrossFit in 2005 by a work colleague, and immediately became a fan of the sport. Upon moving to Florida in 2008, Tyler became certified as a CrossFit Trainer, and began assisting local affiliate CrossFit Delray Beach with Coaching and Business Development duties. A seasoned marketing executive, Tyler has worked in the action sports field for the greater portion of the last decade, and holds an MBA from Babson College. He maintains numerous coaching credentials across multiple endurance sports (Triathlon, Cycling, Swimming, and Track and Field), is a NASM certified personal trainer and certified strength and conditioning coach, is a member of the National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association (NFICA), and has completed requisite coursework for the American Sport Education Program (ASEP). Currently earning credentials through the Optimum Performance Training Coaches Certification Program, Tyler regularly explores new opportunities for professional development, and maintains a passion for sharing insights and exploring ideas with athletes; Although a snowboarder by trade, his Strength and Conditioning column is regularly featured in Ski Racing Magazine. He enjoys spending time with his wife Megan and Son Maddox, listening to loud music (Foo Fighters in particular), and getting into mischief on bicycles.
